ISHS Acta Horticulturae 34: Symposium on growth Regulators in Fruit Production

SESSION IX - CHEMICAL AIDS TO MECHANICAL HARVESTING VALUE OF GROWTH REGULATORS AS AIDS TO MECHANICAL HARVESTING OF APPLES, CHERRIES AND GRAPES

Author:   E.L. Proebsting Jr
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1973.34.49
Abstract:
The response of apples, cherries and grapes to growth regulators offers aids to mechanical harvesting in addition to inducing abscission. Maturity can be regulated to lengthen or change the normal season of ripening. Fruit can be made firmer with potential reduction in bruising. More regular cropping and chemical growth control offer potential aids. Each cultivar and form of utilization presents a different problem to the pomologist.
