MORPHACTINS AS POSSIBLE FRUIT THINNING AGENTS FOR PEACHES |

| Abstract:
Trials with morphactins (derivatives of fluorene-9-carboxylic acid) as fruit thinning agents on cultivars of peach (Prunus persica Batsch) have shown that aqueous solutions of 30–40 ppm applied 10 days after full bloom induce a thinning effect similar to that obtained by the routine hand thinning commonly carried out 40 days after full bloom. Small scale trials with 14C-labelled morphactins have suggested a possible mode of action of these compounds as thinning agents. | |
