Proper spacing of peach fruits soon after full bloom helps establish optimum size, color, and quality of the remaining fruits.
At present, fruit thinning is done by hand labor.
However, increased wage levels and decreased availability of labor may soon make the use of hand labor economically impractical.
Thus, other means of fruit removal will be needed.
Research to develop alternate thinning techniques should include, as a minimum, studies on variability of results obtained with individual chemicals, techniques for screening chemicals for potential use as thinners, mechanism of fruit-set, and mechanical removal of fruits.
