ISHS Acta Horticulturae 339: Workshop on Ecological Aspects of Vegetable Fertilization in Integrated Crop Production in the Field

INDUSTRIAL CONTRACT GROWING OF VEGETABLES FOR BABY FOOD

Author:   E. Bruckner
Abstract:
The quality of processed food depends to a large extent on the raw materials used. It is affected not only by visual and organoleptic quality criteria and by non-sensorial parameters such as nutritional value, but also by the presence of possible contaminants.

Consumers have different preferences and requirements regarding their food. The highest safety standards are set for baby food. This paper discusses the system applied by Nestlé to ensure the supply of quality raw materials for Alete Baby Food. It is a system of contract growing with instructions relating to all production steps and it takes into account the factors that contribute to product quality. The objective is to produce healthy raw materials in the most “natural” way.
