ISHS Acta Horticulturae 338: VI International Workshop on Fireblight

BLOSSOM SUSCEPTIBILITY TO FIRE BLIGHT OF CIDER APPLE

Authors:   J.P. Paulin, R. Chartier, J.M. Boré
Abstract:
Cultivars of cider apple are sometimes severely affected by fire blight, as observed in South-East England or North West France. The severity of infections can be related to the high susceptiblity of the genotypes used for cider production. In addition to already reported data on shoot susceptibility of cider apples, we report here the assessment of the relative blossom susceptibility of 139 cultivars naturally infected in the same orchard. These results showed that very susceptible cultivars are probably more frequent in cider apples than in dessert apples.
