Abstract:
The breeding programmes for fruit and ornamental species susceptible to Fire Blight imply a better knowledge of pathogenicity.
The choice of the strain for plant inoculation is essential for screening and therefore, for durability of the resistance.
Novole is susceptible to the strain 1430 and resistant to 266. Evereste is resistant to both strains in the greenhouse but not in vitro.
The progeny between the 2 apple varieties was studied to determine the inheritance of the resistance, to screen among the progeny resistant plants to both strains and showing also such a resistance when inoculated in vitro.
No single explanation can be proposed to explain the segregations.
The variability of some results is discussed and also strategy of the breeder.
This plant material is of great value to progress in the knowledge of plant bacteria interactions.
