Abstract:
On the basis of a previous study, the control of Erwinia amylovora in propagation plant material by heat treatment was systematically investigated.
The assays were especially focused on the effect of 45°C and 50°C. Naturally infected apple and pear shoots were incubated either in humid athmosphere or in hot water at different time-temperature combinations.
Survival of the bacteria was evaluated by plating on suitable media.
Heat treated scions were grafted in the greenhouse and in the orchard in order to check their viability.
Our results showed that thermotherapy can be used against Erwinia amylovora in budwoods under certain conditions.
