OUTBREAK, SPREAD AND ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF FIRE BLIGHT PATHOGEN (ERWINIA AMYLOVORA) IN YUGOSLAVIA

Abstract:
Fire blight pathogen of Pomaceous fruit trees on the territory of former Yugoslavia was discovered at the end of 1989 in pear plantation on the Southeast part of the country, in the district of Radoviš.

In the past time, in spite of very different conditions for the occurrence and distribution of the pathogen, fire blight spread quickly and appeared in numerous localities, with a tendency of further expansion.

Till the end of September 1992 the disease has been registered in 8 regions and 25 districts, as follows:

In the region of "East part of Macedonia" in the districts of: Berovo, Bitola, Gevgelija, Kocani, Kratovo, Kriva Palanka, Kumanovo, Negotino, Probištip, Radoviš, Strumica, Štip and Vinica on 254 ha of pear, 44 ha of quince and on the individual trees of apple;

In the region of "North part of Bosnia" in the district of Bosanska Gradiška on 288 ha of pear and on the individual trees of apple;

In the region of "Central part of Serbia" in the districts of: Barajevo, Kragujevac and Sopot on 67 ha of quince and on some individual trees of mespil;

In the region of "West part of Serbia" in the districts of: Koceljeva, Šabac and Vladimirci on cca 6 ha of quince and on the individual trees of pear and apple;

In the region of "South part of Serbia" in the districts of: Leskovac and Vucje on cca 40 ha of pear;

In the region of "West part of Kosovo" in the district of Dakovica on some individual trees of pear and

In the region of "East part of Slavonia" in the district of Vukovar (Trpinja) on some individual trees of pear.

Up to now, 328 ha of pear trees and cca 75 ha of quince were eradicated.
