Abstract:
In 1986 an outbreak of fire blight was detected in and around the city of Stavanger, on the south west coast of Norway.
Mainly Cotoneaster bullatus and C. salicifolius were attacked.
An eradication campaign was immediately put into action.
A quarantine area of about 700 km2 was established, where strict measures to fight the disease were taken.
In addition to the removal of diseased plants, the two most susceptible hosts have been systematically removed from the area, regardless of health status.
The campaign has so far been successful in preventing further spread of fire blight to other parts of Norway.
In the area prospects for the eradication of the disease are very promising.
