| Abstract:
Bold tropical flowers are defined as anthurium (Anthurium andraeanum Andre), bird-of-paradise (Strelitzia reginae Aiton), gingers [specifically the red ginger (Alpinia purpurata (Vieill.) K. Schum.) and its selections], and heliconias (Heliconia spp.). Increased economic importance requires review of factors affecting postharvest life in order to define areas where research contributions can be made. Excellent keeping life for anthurium and bird-of-paradise flowers is possible, but extension of the vase life for gingers and heliconias remains a challenge. | |
