ISHS Acta Horticulturae 337: II International Symposium on the Development of New Floricultural Crops

PROGRESS OF NEW CROPS RESEARCH - A COOPERATIVE PROGRAM BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY

Authors:   Mark S. Roh, Roger H. Lawson
Abstract:
A research program was initiated in the Florist and Nursery Crops Laboratory to increase the diversity of florist crop germplasm in the United States in 1982. The new crops program was expanded in 1984 in cooperation with the Society of American Florist and the American Floral Endowment. The mission of the program is to research the commercial production and distribution of potential new crops, to collect and provide growers with detailed information, and to serve as a information source of new crops. Anigozanthos, Chamelaucium, Correa, Cyrtanthus, Eucrosia, dwarf form of Eustoma, 'Little Blue Belle', Leptospermum, Sinningia, Curcuma, Lachenalia, Ornithogalum and other crops have been introduced to the industry with cultural information. Research results of several new crops and crops that are produced with a new production technology are presented.
