ISHS Acta Horticulturae 335: International Symposium on Irrigation of Horticultural Crops

TIME-DOMAIN REFLECTOMETRY AND TENSIOMETERS FOR DETECTING SOIL MOISTURE CONTENT

Author:   C. Werkhoven
Keywords:   Soil moisture content, Humidity of soil, TDR, Dielectric constant
Abstract:
The application of growth models requires that more data are available about crops. IMAG applies sensors and, if necessary, develops them. A computer-controlled TDR system is described for automatic measurements of 30 sensors.

Measurements have been carried out with tensiometers and TDR in pot plants and grassland.

The TDR measurements give good results; the TDR signal is stored and can be examined later. Calibration in the soil is necessary if accurate reading is needed. The results of the measurements as a basis for irrigation of the field to be started.
