ISHS Acta Horticulturae 335: International Symposium on Irrigation of Horticultural Crops

GROWING PEPPERS IN SUBSTRATES IN THE SOUTH EAST OF SPAIN

Author:   I. Jiménez
Abstract:
Growing in substrate is becoming more and more popular in the South East of Spain.

Tomato, cucumber and melon crops have quite easily adapted to soilless culture, given our climatic conditions. However, this has not been the case with of the most important crops, that of peppers.

In this study the peppers have been cultivated on two substrates, rockwool and perlite, as on the traditional sand-mulched soil. Yield data, water consumption and temperatures have been analysed and show encouraging results for the development of the aforementioned substrate culture under our climatic conditions.
