SWEET CORN RESPONSE TO COMBINED EFFECTS OF SALINE WATER AND NITROGEN FERTILIZATION

Authors:   J. Beltrão, J. Ben Asher, D. Magnusson
Abstract:
The objective of this work is to study interactive effects of saline water-nitrogen fertilization under excessive irrigation water on the yield of sweet corn (Zea mays, cv. Jubilee). Experiments were carried out in North Negev, Israel. The experimental design was based in modifications of line source experiments. A dynamic simulation model was used to generalize these effects, where soil salinity was determined by a submodel, which computes the leaching rates of salts and calculates the wilting point according to salt content. It is concluded the main several aspects: 1) nitrogen fertilization increases salinity treshold value, and 2) yield sensitivity to salinity is greater at high nitrogen application.
