INHERITANCE OF LEAF MARGIN SPINE IN PINEAPPLE

Author:   K. Kinjo
Keywords:   phenotype, cross combination, F1 plant, segregation, alleles
Abstract:
In many of the pineapple hybrids produced by interspecific crossing, segregation's of spine character in F1 plants were studied in mid growth stage. Results showed that F1 plants in crosses between smooth leaf margin "Maipure" and "Spiny" segregated 1 to 1 with the parents phenotype. Phenotypic expressions were thought to be a single pair of alleles. Crosses of "Few" spines x "Spiny" beared both the parents phenotypes and an irregular spiny-form "Scallop". In crosses between Cayenne to different Cayenne types, "Few", "Scallop", "Spiny", and "Spineless " (not "Maipure") phenotypes appeared suggesting that these characteristics expressed triple pairs of alleles.
