DRY MATTER ACCUMULATION AND YIELD ELABORATION OF PINEAPPLE IN COTE D'IVOIRE |

| Abstract:
The effects of i) time from planting to forcing, ii) plant population density and, iii) seasonal climatic variations on Smooth Cayenne pineapple fruit yield and its components (fruitlets per fruit, fruitlet weight) were studied in three experiments in Côte d'Ivoire. In the first experiment, plants one to 10 months old were forced at the same date. In a second experiment, plant population densities (density) of 5 and 10 plants m-2 were initially established and density was modified at forcing for half of the plots by removing alternate plants to reduce interplant competition. Thirdly, in a long-duration trial, plots were planted monthly over a 10-year period and forced eight months after planting. Duration from planting to forcing, initial density and climate were found to influence plant weight at forcing. Increased plant weight at forcing increased the two yield components. Stored assimilates appeared to increase with plant weight and plant age at forcing and their use for fruit growth seemed to also increase. However, post-forcing conditions related to environmental (water status, solar radiation) or management factors (plant population density) influence the relationship between plant weight and fruit weight. | |
