Abstract:
Thymus zygis Loefl. ex L. is very common and widespread in Portugal.
The present study was carried out in order to determine the chemical composition of the essential oil of this taxon which matters a good deal for industrial purposes.
The thymol type essential oil is very common in Thymus zygis Loefl. ex L. subsp. zygis which is good for therapeutic uses.
In order to contribute towards its standardization, the physico-chemical characteristics, a typical chromatogram and the maximum and minimum contents of the most characteristic compounds from this essential oil (gas chromatographic profile) are presented.
