Abstract:
Cretan dittany (Origanum dictamnus L.) plants were grown in solution culture (N.F.T) at three potassium levels (150–300–450 mg/l) under unheated greenhouse conditions over a six month period (January-July) in Crete.
Plants were sampled at two developmental stages (flower bud formation and flowering), and their shoot, stem, leaves and bracts weights and essential oil content were measured.
Potassium did not affect plant growth but the high K level decreased the essential oil content of bracts and leaves.
