Abstract:
Melissa officinalis L., has been successfully cultivated in Egypt for the first time.
This work is a part of a research program for improving the productivity of this plant.
Fertilization as side dressing, as well as, foliar spraying was applied on plants cultivated at 40, 60 or 80 cm spacing treatments.
The results showed that, although wide spacing improved the growth paramters per plant, however, narrower spacing resulted in higher yields of herb and oil per unit area.
A high level of side dressing fertilization was the best treatment, followed by the treatment consisted with low levels of both side dressing and foliar spraying.
The increase in the oil yield is rather dependent on the produced herb than its oil content (%).
