CONSERVATION AND UTILIZATION OF MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANTS IN ITALY

Authors:   P. PERRINO, P. BASSO, G. LAGHETTI
Abstract:
The majority of medicinal and aromatic plants used in Italy are believed to have been originated in the Mediterranean and European Siberian centres. More than 300 species are grown and used in Italy. Those which have originated in the Mediterranean are threatened of genetic erosion. A list of the most important medicinal and aromatic plants used in the peninsula is provided together with their importance, utilization and actions for their conservation "in situ" and "extra situ".
