Abstract:
Dormancy in deciduous fruit trees is a physiological syndrome that occurs annually and enables plants to survive cold winters.
Induction and release from dormancy are linked to structural and metabolic modifications occurring mainly at bud level.
It is commonly assumed that the interaction of different classes of phytohormones is the most important factor in the control of dormancy.
Although some aspects of their action have been clarified, little progress in attempts to elucidate the hormonal mechanisms involved in the induction and termination of dormancy in buds has been made.
