ISHS Acta Horticulturae 329: VII International Symposium on Plant Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

THE EFFECT OF SYNTHETIC GROWTH REGULATORS ON CHILLING INJURY IN PEPPER FRUIT DURING LOW TEMPERATURE STORAGE

Authors:   S. Lurie, R. Ronen
Abstract:
Synthetic growth regulators, particularly sterol biosynthesis inhibitors, such as paclobutrazol and uniconazole, affect both gibberellin and sterol synthesis. The latter effect changes the composition of cellular membranes, and has been shown in some cases to alter plant resistance to environmental stresses. For this reason we examined green and red peppers during storage after treatment with synthetic growth regulators in the field, to determine if the compounds altered the susceptibility of the fruit to low temperature.
