| Abstract:
Chlorethephon at 0, 200, 400, 600 or 800 ppm was applied to 'Nijisseiki' Asian pears 15 DAFB. All treatments included a wetting agent and were applied in balanced incomplete blocks to ten trees with four treatments per tree. Fruit set was reduced in proportion to chlorethephon concentration, 800 ppm reduced fruit set by 62% compared to controls. Increasing concentrations of chlorethephon increased the leaf area to fruit number ratio but decreased mean fruit weight. Fruit soluble solids content increased, flesh firmness decreased at harvest with increasing rates of chlorethephon, with the ibcidence and severity of flesh spot decay increased after 12 weeks at storage at 2°C. Chlorethephon increased return bloom the year after treatment by an average of 60 percent compared to controls. | |
