Abstract:
Ethylene accumulates inside air tight tissue culture vessels.
It originates both from the medium and the plantlet.
It has been shown that in the medium it is agar which produces most of ethylene and that not all species react similarly to the ethylene production.
Some plants (e.g.
GF677, peach x almond hybrid) are extremely sensitive and react by production of ethylene in their turn followed by decay of the plantlet.
Other species (e.g. grapevine) are not harmed by the ethylene produced by the medium and grow healthy.
