Abstract:
Results show that cv.
Cortland and cv.
Gloster develop considerably fewer feathers than cv.
Jonagold and cv.
Melrose by nature, in most cases trees on M 26 or MM 106 branched better than on M 9. In all three nurseries pinching or spraying with growth substances before the end of June gave better results than at the beginning of July.
The best effect of a mixture of GA3 and BA and GA4+7 and BA at a concentration of 500 mg · l-1 on branching of cv.
Cortland trees was obtained in 1988, when the number of lateral shoots on M 26 was 4.2 and 4.8, on MM 106 -2.9 and 3.2 respectively, in comparison with 0 on control trees.
In the case of cv.
Gloster, in 1990 trees on M 26 treated with GA3 and BA produced 6.9 and on M 9 – 4.7 feathers, and after the application of GA4+7 and BA - 7.5 and 4.9 respectively and control trees 1.0 and 0.5 feathers.
The influence of a mixture of GA3 and BA on branching of cv.
Jonagold and cv.
Melrose trees grafted on M 26 or M 9 was similar (9.7–10.3 and 5.4–6.4) to that of a mixture of GA4+7 and BA (10.7–13.5 and 8.4–7.2) compared with 2.9–2.6 and 1.2–0.6 in control.
