ISHS Acta Horticulturae 329: VII International Symposium on Plant Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

ON THE MODE OF ACTION OF ACYLCYLCOHEXANEDIONES - A NEW TYPE OF PLANT GROWTH RETARDANT WITH POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIPS TO DAMINOZIDE

Author:   W. Rademacher
Keywords:   Prohexadione, cimectacarb, LAB 198 999, gibberellin biosynthesis
Abstract:
Acylcylcohexanediones which are represented by compounds such as cimectacarb or prohexadione constitute a new type of plant growth retardant. They interfere with gibberellin (GA) formation by blocking 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases which catalyze the later steps in the biosynthetic sequence. Especially 3beta-hydroxylation (e.g. the conversion of biologically inactive GA20 into biologically active GA1) is inhibited. Structural similarities and data from older literature indicate that daminozide's mode of action is similar to that of acylcyclohexanediones.
