ISHS Acta Horticulturae 329: VII International Symposium on Plant Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

THE CATALYTIC ACTION OF GROWTH REGULATORS IN THE CONTROL OF PLANTS

Authors:   F. Zucconi, D. Neri
Abstract:
This analysis focuses on the potential use of exogenous growth regulators (EGRs) in the control of productive activities; a problem also requiring an exploration of the regulative makeup in plants and its responsiveness to manipulations. Attention is devoted to the existence of an unpredictable variability in the amplifying-deamplifying action of EGRs (catalytic role), a behaviour discouraging their extensive use. A mean to account for such a variability is to consider the manipulated events (Em), and their erraticity, as dependent on natural events (En) and their dynamics. To draw Ems responses on a En abscissa, in particular, allows erratic Em data to arrange into regular distributions, according to a reduced number of laws. The significance of postulating an En-dependent Em response is discussed, both for its physiological and parametric implications.
