NUTRIENT UPTAKE BY LILIES (ASIATIC HYBRIDS)

Author:   A. Landman
Abstract:
The nutrient uptake of three lily cultivars (Aristo, Connecticut King and Enchantment), all belonging to the group of Asiatic hybrids, has been measured. At several dates during the growing period in the field samples were taken of the overground parts and bulbs. The dried and ground samples were analysed for: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium.

The uptake curves of the various nutrients are presented in this paper as well as the average nutrient removal at harvest time.

Quantification of the nutrient uptake of plants can be used as the basis for fertilizer recommendations. The presented research showed what implications the described research had for the nitrogen fertilization recommendations for lilies in The Netherlands and has been published in: Slangen, J.H.G., Krook, G.J., Hendriks, C.H.M., and Hof, N.A.A., 1989: N-Dressing and nutrient uptake of lilies on sandy soils. Netherlands Journal of Agricultural Science 37, p. 269–272.
