THE EFFECT OF LIGHT QUALITY ON ETHYLENE BIOSYNTHESIS IN LEAVES AND PETALS OF ALSTROEMERIA PLANT.

Authors:   B. Michalczuk, R.M. Rudnicki, R. Moe
Abstract:
The effect of light at various spectrums: blue, green, white, red and far-red on EFE activity and ethylene biosynthesis in leaf and petal discs of flowering Alstroemeria plant was studied. Blue, green, red and white light inhibited strongly of ACC conversion to ethylene in leaf discs, whereas far-red light stimulated this reaction. In petal discs ACC conversion to ethylene was inhibited only by blue and white light, whereas red and green light had stimulatory effect. Blue light inhibited strongly IAA-induced ethylene synthesis, whereas red and far-red light stimulated it. Inhibitory effect of blue light on ethylene biosynthesis was not reversible by consequent illumination with light of other spectra.
