STIMULATORY EFFECT OF CUPRIC ION ON ETHYLENE PRODUCTION IN TULIPS

Authors:   E. Wegrzynowicz, M. Saniewski
Abstract:
The effect of cupric ion on the ethylene production and stem growth in tulips cv. Gudoshnik was studied. CuCl2 at concentration 1.0 mM, applied to the inside of flower bud, stimulated ethylene production in pistil and the 4th (upper) internode, induced flower bud blasting and formation of gums in the 4th internode, and almost totally inhibited stem growth. When applied under in vitro conditions CuCl2 also stimulated ethylene production in pistils excised at different stages of tulip shoot growth.
