ISHS Acta Horticulturae 325: VI International Symposium on Flower Bulbs

DISTRIBUTION OF ETHYLENE PRODUCTION AND ETHYLENE-FORMING ENZYME ACTIVITY IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF TULIPS

Authors:   E. Wegrzynowicz, M. Saniewski
Abstract:
The ethylene production and ethylene-forming enzyme (EFE) activity by different tulip organ tissues before cooling, during cooling and in different stages of shoot growth after planting were measured.

The highest level of ethylene production by pistil took place immediately after bulb planting. Leaves produced a relatively high level of ethylene before bulb cooling and in early stages of shoot growth after planting. The 3rd and the 4th (upper) internodes produced more ethylene than the 1st and the 2nd internodes.

The EFE activity was much higher than ethylene evolution in all the organs and in all the stages studied.
