EFFECT OF POSTHARVEST CHEMICAL TREATMENT ON LONGEVITY OF DIFFERENT CULTIVARS OF CUT ALSTROEMERIA FLOWERS

Authors:   B. Michalczuk, A. Przybyla, D.M. Goszczynska, R.M. Rudnicki
Abstract:
The effect of postharvest treatment with Chrysal AVB, Chrysal SVB, Chrysal AVB+SVB and solution containing 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate, sucrose and gibberellic acid (HQC+S+GA) on keeping quality of five Alstroemeria cultivars Catalina, Ines, Juanita, Rosita and Yellow King was evaluated. Amoung applied treatments, 24 h conditioning with either Chrysal AVB+SVB or HQC+S+GA had the greatest effect on extension of inflorescence vase life of all examined cultivars. Moreover, such treatments completely inhibited foliar yellowing. However HQC+S+GA treatment had the best effect on increasing the petal length of both primary and secondary flowers.
