ISHS Acta Horticulturae 325: VI International Symposium on Flower Bulbs

EFFECT OF FLURPRIMIDOL AND SILVER THIOSULFATE (STS) ON THE GROWTH AND FLOWERING OF 'PRIMA' LILIES GROWN AS A POT PLANTS.

Authors:   A. Pobudkiewicz, J. Nowak
Abstract:
The bulbs of Asiatic hybrid lilies 'Prima' were potted one bulb per 10 cm pot on either 24 December 1991, 29 January 1992 or 5 February 1992. Prior to plant, bulbs were soaked in silver thiosulphate at 2 mM for 24 hours. Plants received a foliar spray of flurprimidol at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mg 1-1 when the plant shoots were about 8 – 11 cm tall. The sprays were applied until the spray uniformly covered leaf surface, using a manually operated, high volume, low pressure sprayer. The control plants were sprayed with tap water at the same time. All flurprimidol treated plants were significantly shorter than the controls in proportion to the concentration. Flowering was also proportionally delayed by a few days. The petal lengths and flower peduncle lengths were also affected by flurprimidol. No floral or plant abnormalities were observed after flurprimidol treatments.
