Abstract:
Flower bud initiation and development of Eucrosia bicolor was studied following storage of bulbs at temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 C. Soluble glucose, fructose, and sucrose were analyzed.
Bulbs stored at 10 C for 2 months remained vegetative, while bulbs stored at 20 C reached a three-chambered gynoecium stage.
Bulbs stored at 20 C flowered in 60 days while those stored at 10 C produced emerging leaves.
During the transitional stage from a vegetative to a reproductive stage, sucrose content was the highest compared to a vegetative stage or during the period of inflorescence development.
