Abstract:
Field trials in two apple replant disease soils of British Columbia established that the application of strain EBW4 of B. subtilis alone was effective in promoting the growth of replanted apple trees.
This bacterium has also shown significant increase in tree growth when applied in combination with metam sodium, peat, or NPK treatments.
The application of fertilizer, fumigation, peat or mancozeb alone did not significantly increase growth of trees.
These results suggest that strain EBW4 of B. subtilis has potential for field control of apple replant disease in orchards of British Columbia.
