LYSIMETRIC STUDIES ON WATER CONSUMPTION IN TOMATO

Authors:   M.M. Tantawy, A.F. Abou-Hadid, A.S. El-Beltagy
Abstract:
The study was carried out during the 1991/1992 growing season on tomato plants, Lycopersicon esculentum, cv. UC 97/3. Clay and sand lysimeters were used in order to study the actual water consumption of tomato in comparison with the calculated value using the Piche method. Actual water consumption was higher than the estimates from the Piche method in clay lysimeters, while there was no difference between the methods using sand lysimeters. The crop coefficient (Kc) was re-estimated in order to meet the actual water consumption. Results were discussed with regard to the local climatic conditions.
