EFFECT OF PRUNING ON GROWTH, YIELD AND QUALITY OF BER |

| Abstract:
An investigation on the effect of intensity of pruning viz. severe, medium and no pruning on growth, yield and quality of ber cv. 'Narikeli' was carried out at the Fruit Research Station, Rajshahi during March, 1986 to February, 1988. Number of shoots per tree were more in no pruning treatment. However, maximum length and diameter of shoots, number of branches per shoot and branchlets per bunch were obtained in severe pruning and minimum in no pruning. Further, leaf size and number of leaves per branchlet, fresh and dry weight of leaves were more in no pruning treatment. Spread and height of tree was also more in no pruning treatment. Significantly more number of fruits was obtained in severe pruning (2971) and medium pruning (2848) compared to no pruning (1980). Yield of fruits per tree was similar in severe pruning (59.3 kg) and medium pruning (55.7) but was significantly higher than no pruning (36.9). Fruits of severe and medium pruning had more TSS content. Considering the parameters like growth, yield of fruits per tree, TSS content and percent edible portion medium to severe pruning is recommended for increased production of quality ber fruits. | |
