EFFECT OF GRADED DOSES OF NITROGEN ON VINE GROWTH, FRUIT YIELD AND QUALITY OF 'PERLETTE' GRAPES |

| Abstract:
Investigations were carried out to study the effect of graded doses of N applied as single nutrient basis on growth, yield and fruit quality of grapes cv. Perlette during the years 1989 and 1990. Nitrogen at the rate of 125 g/vine produced maximum trunk diameter and shoot growth, closely followed by 100 g. N application during both years of study. Highest annual pruning wood of 435 480 g was recorded under the same treatment during 1989 and 1990, respectively. However, the number of bunches and fruit yield/vine was maximum under the treatment of 100 g N application, while the lowest under control. Similarly, heaviest bunches weighing 408.1 g and berries of 1.77 g (mean of 1989 and 1990) was found under the above treatment. Fruit quality in respect to TSS and total acids were, however, better under the lower doses of 25 and 50 g N application. TSS/acid ratio in both years of study was better under the lowest N dose and control treatments. | |
