STANDARDIZATION OF GRAFTING TECHNIQUES IN SAPOTA (ACHRAS ZAPOTA L.)

Author:   M.K. Sandhu
Abstract:
The technique of veneer grafting in sapota has been standardized for commercial use. Six-month old scions and 2-year old rootstocks gave the highest graft success. Scions of 15 cm long showed maximum graft success when grafted on rootstocks 20 cm above the collar region. Longer scions resulted in taller grafts. Forced scions gave better results than non-forced ones, while etiolation had no effect on graft success or graft growth. September-November proved to be the ideal season for veneer grafting under South Bengal condition.
