IN VITRO ORGANOGENESIS OF CARAMBOLA

Authors:   A. Rashid, H. Ahmad, M. Aziz, Z. Alang
Abstract:
Adventitous shoots were regenerated from root explant, and stem-derived callus of Averrhoa carambola cultivar B10. Shoot proliferation from root explant was achieved on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l 3-indole butyric acid (IBA) and 0.1 to 4.0 mg/l 6-Benzyl-amino purine (BAP). Maximum shoot proliferation was observed on a medium with 1.0 mg/l IBA and 4.0 mg/l BAP. Shoot regeneration from stem-derived callus occured on MS medium with 1.0 mg/l IBA ang 0.1 to 4.0 mg/l BAP but no significant difference was observed within this range. Further subculture of callus proliferated more shoots. Shootlets were rooted on MS medium with different levels of IBA, IAA or combination of both auxin but rooting was best achieved on MS medium with 2.0 mg/l IBA only, or 2.0 mg/l IBA in combination with 0.1 mg/l IAA.
