ISHS Acta Horticulturae 321: Frontier in Tropical Fruit Research

COMMERCIAL MICROPROPAGATION OF TROPICAL FRUIT TREES

Author:   P. Gavinlertvatana
Abstract:
A remarkable success in biotechnological research has made it possible to apply such technology in commerce. The most widely applicable technologies at present are micropropagation and microbiology.

In micropropagation, applications to tropical fruit trees are limited when compared to applications in flowers and ornamental plants. Though research has been successful in many tropical fruit tree species, commercial applications are limited to only few species including banana and pineapple. A large scale field result has been inconclusive, but shows a great potential in improving yield and quality of tropical fruits.
