EFFECT OF FRUIT POSITION IN THE TREE CANOPY ON POSTHARVEST CHANGES AND QUALITY OF 'NAM DOK MAI' MANGOES |

| Abstract:
The effect of fruit position in the tree canopy was studied in relation to postharvest changes and quality of 'Nam Dok Mai' mangoes at 3 stages of maturity. Regardless of maturing stages, there was no significant different in the quality of ripened fruit from the upper and lower positions in the canopy. However, the postharvest changes and quality of ripened fruits from the upper tree canopy tended to have deeper yellow pulp, higher total soluble solids, higher reducing sugars, and greater total soluble solids : titratable acidity and less moisture content, ascorbic acid, flesh firmness, titratable acidity and total non-structural carbohydrates as compared to those from the lower canopy position. | |
