| Abstract:
Cultar, a plant growth regulator, has been extensively developed in tropical fruits. By far the most useful benefits have been the effects of Cultar in advancing or enhancing flowering in mango, durian, avocado, wax apple, citrus, lychees, and also crops grown on trellises such as grapes and kiwi fruit. A range of other tropical fruits have responded to Cultar but the commercial benefits need to be quantified to justify further development. Interesting new areas of development are the use of Cultar in re-juvenating old avocado orchards, increasing juvenile bearing, alleviating biennial bearing, establishment of high density planting and interactions with other plant growth regulators. It is essential that Cultar be integrated into orchard management systems with good understanding of cropping patterns and inputs to achieve and sustain yield increases. Introduction of Cultar to growers requires good extension effort and technical support to successfully transfer this useful technology. | |
