Abstract:
While research efforts are concentrated in developing the better known local tropical fruits such as rambutan, carambola, durian, etc. very little work have been done on indigenous tropical fruits which are found only in certain localized areas of Malaysia.
Many of these fruits are unknown outside the areas where there are found.
Particularly in Sarawak, an eastern Malaysian state occupying the south-western portion of Borneo, there exist numerous species of tropical fruits which are indigenous to but are lesser known outside the state.
Among these fruits there are some species which possess the potential to be added to the list of promising tropical fruits of the country.
This paper describes these fruits and discusses research work which have so far been carried out on them.
