Abstract:
Specialty vegetables are in high demand in most Northern European countries mainly due to a diverse population make-up and a relatively high standard of living.
Certain specialty vegetables such as super sweet corn, ice-box watermelons, broccoli, napa, etc. offer an excellent opportunity for U.S. growers/shippers to export.
However, high quality and consistent supply is of utmost importance.
The vegetable has to be uniformily sized and attractively packaged.
Packaging including pallets should be metric sized.
Net weights must be metric and stated on the package.
Florida, having a semi-tropical climate and being a producer of winter vegetables and some semi-tropical vegetables, has a market window during the winter months and in some instances, throughout the year for certain specialty vegetables.
