Abstract:
Chinese cabbage cultivar, Tropical Quick, was transplanted at two week intervals in double rows to plastic mulched beds with subsurface irrigation.
Nitrogen sources used were calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, urea, urea-ammonium nitrate solution, and Nitro-Plus.
All fertilizers were placed in three bands 8 cm below the surface of the bed.
Calcium nitrate produced heads of significantly greater weight than Nitro-Plus and urea.
No particular nitrogen source reduced "tipburn", however urea plots showed the least tipburn in the trial.
