ELECTROPHORETIC ANALYSIS OF TOTAL PROTEINS TO ELUCIDATE THE INCOMPATIBILITY RESPONSE IN SWEET CHERRY (PRUNUS AVIUM L.)

Authors:   V. Tsirakoglou, M. Vasilakakis, A. Tsaftaris
Abstract:
The self-incompatibility mechanism in sweet cherry was studied by examining the protein pattern of styles in relation to time after their pollination. A marked distinction in protein band behaviour between self- and crosspollinated styles in both tested cultivars was observed 48 hours after pollination. To the extent that these changes in protein profile coincided with the morphological expression of the incompatibility detected by pollen tube growth, those proteins could be considered to be associated with the mechanism of the incompatibility phenomenon in sweet cherry.
