Abstract:
The observations, carried out on 24 dwarf and semidwarf peach and nectarine genotypes during three years, had the aim of testing the efficiency of the reproductive apparatus.

Morphological pistil characters, pollen viability and germinability were tested in the laboratory, intervarietal controlled crosses and self-fertility trials were performed in the field. Data on blooming time and estimation of blooming and fruit set amounts were also collected.

The results pointed out two male-sterile semidwarf selections, two self-sterile peach genotypes under facultative self-pollination conditions, and one unproductive semidwarf peach selection (IF 7310902), despite its reproductive efficiency.

The observations on microsporogenesis confirmed the presence of anomalies for the two male-sterile selections.

The megasporogenesis and embryo development studies indicated a high number of ovaries with ovules lacking the embryo sac or showing an early degeneration in IF 7310902, and the apparent setting of unfertilized fruitlets until 50–55 days from blooming in several genotypes.
