PRODUCTIVITY OF HIGH DENSITY PEACH ORCHARD USING A FREE ROOTSTOCK (PRUNUS PERSICA THUNB.).

Authors:   Y. Furukawa, T. Kataoka, M. Shimomura, T. Ogata
Abstract:
The study of productivity was conducted over 4 years (1987–1990) on 'Benishimizu' peach (Prunus persica THUNB.). The trees were spaced 4 × 2 m (1250 trees/ha) and trained to a modified central leader (slender spindle). The trees began cropping during the second growing season and the cumulative yield reached by the 4th season was 68575 kg.ha. During the third year after planting, the trees reached nearly the full size and in the 4th season it was necessary to keep the balance between fruit growth and tree growth in order to maintain a high productivity, especially on lateral shoots.
