Authors:   G. Loebenstein, I.M. Smith, B. Loberant, Z. Fleischer
Abstract:
G. Loebenstein:

Outlined the increase in plant movement from country to country over the past 50 years and pointed out the dangers of pest and disease dissemination particularly with vegetatively propagated plant material. The most dangerous pathogens are viral and bacterial and the purpose of the discussion is highlight what can be done to decrease the threat of spreading disease. In addition to guidelines for growers compiled by international organizations as IBPGR, FAO and EPPO, the research sector is required to develop the knowhow for reliable and cheap methods of disease and pest monitoring which will lead to cooperation between plant protection experts and the growers.
